Vandaag met een groepje naar Schiermonnikoog gesurfd, al daar aangekomen was de richting erg haaks, het was er verder wel mooi qua landschap. De terugweg was gelukkig goed te doen.

Great adventure on the Waddensea. The Island looks like paradise. It was quite difficult to get there. Two guys didn't make it, 1 went back and the other got rescued.

I took the advice of Baz Luhrman in 'Always wear sun screen': 'Do one thing that scares you every day'. This definitely qualified. Totally forgot about the sun screen though.

We sailed to Schiermonnikoog today. Getting there involved sailing very broad reaches in the chop, but once you got there it was nice. When rigging I was unsure whether to take 7.0 or 6.3, but I'm glad I chose the last one. I was nicely powered up and it was nice sailing there! The trip back had me a bit worried though so I made sure I had enough energy left. In the end I decided to follow Johan's example by walking along the sand bar for quite some time and then sail the remaining part. That went way better than I anticipated luckily.

All in all an awesome day!

Duidelijk wat anders dan Strand Horst. :)  Om op de spot te komen moest er eerst een paar kilometer downwind gevaren worden wat een aardige opgave bleek. Na een val mijn hand geblesserd om het nog maar een wat makkelijker te maken maar eenmaal daar is het toch een klein paradijsje aan de rand van Nederland met uitzicht op de Noordpool. Niete de snelheden kunnen halen omdat de wind wat haakser werd nadat ik arriveerde. Terug was ook spannend met een hand die niet 100% was. Blij dat ik aan de kant was.

na 1 misluke poging en slecht onderbuik gevoel heb ik het nog 1 keer geprobeerd maar ben na 500mtr toch omgekeerd.

De angst om niet terug te kunnen komen had toch de overhand.

Volgende keer beter met een grotere plank en iets minder wind.

Super session at Schier. I love it to cross the waddezee on a board instead of walking in the mud. It is always a great experience and a lot of fun! 

We had to surf on the north shore of Schier because the wind was south easterly. The course was very square and it was hard to get a good 10 sec run.

The second fastest run was on the Mistral, very nice board with a very smooth ride over the chop. Great stuff.

The start of the surf session was not as smooth as planned. First forgot my masts and had to drive back to my house when I was halfway. I hope the cops where still sleeping. And after I parked my car I hide my car keys under a stone .... I thought. It was a deep hole full with water, dead mouse and other shit. Luckily I found the keys again and they where still working...Volkswagen rocks.

very nice to see the overlay on the map and the runs. I thought we where further Nord East.

Sessie 92: mooie discovery tocht naar Schiermonnikoog, mijn GPS functioneert nog steeds niet helemaal goed, maar allah; wel lekker gevaren!

Avontuurlijk dagje. Was van plan om op het meer te gaan varen, maar bij het passeren van de sluizen, zag ik een hele groep speedies bij de overgang naar de Ray staan. De tocht ging naar Schier. Aangezien ik hier nog niet was geweest, zeil en board klaargemaakt en bus weggebracht, maar toen ik terug kwam was alleen Edwin er nog. Samen het water op gegaan, maar Edwin besloot weldra rechtsomkeer te maken. Het was ook geen gemakkelijke tocht, voor de wind over de golven en ik wist ook niet precies waar ik moest zijn.

Toen ik eindelijk op de speedstrip arriveerde, had ik mijn kruit dan ook al aardig verschoten. Nog even wat relaxed heen en weer gevaren en daarna de terugtocht met de overige surfers opgepakt. Ook dit was redelijk spectaculair, maar de wind was iets gaan liggen, waardoor het prima te doen was met een slalomboard over de golven.

Al met al een mooi avontuur op het wad, maar van de speed is weinig terecht gekomen.
