Another great days sailing at the Ray. I wanted to try the speed 45 with the 6.7 to see if it worked - definitely on the large side and hopeless in anything less than 18-20kts. The fin though is very impressive, even when I was pushing against it upwind it stayed rock solid - amazingly powerful. Wind was dead on south so East and West speed courses were working, got my fastest times on the East course on port tack. West course was like glass but you had to bear away from the bank to get any decent runs. Good to see Ian and Mike there...not bad for a monday! Not a pb breaking day as the wind never really came through, even on the 6.7 off the wind was gutless.
Third trip to the Ray but the anticipated wind didn't really materialise. It was still good to be out on the water with Ian and Will for company and we all enjoyed the session. Will was trying a 6.7m on his JP Speed 45 so I decided to try a 6.2m on mine which it seemed to handle it pretty well, although 5.4m seemed a better match (last time). The Choco Mach-1 24 felt much better than the stock JP Speed 24 and I was able to trust it even when loaded up. Did a handful of good gybes on my speed board (which I am still getting used to) and one felt particularly good with a minimum speed of 14 knots. It didn't make it into an alpha result but it was 3 knots faster than the gybe that gave me an alpha result of 21.34!

Only average speeds but what a fantastic day, Southend is just an amazing speed spot, southerley wind allows all the west course to be used for starboard tack runs, and all the east course on port tack. Very smooth water on both courses, just the wind had no guts in it today. Well done Will T and Mike for keeping going with your speed boards in not much wind. Oh love the seals to, they're so chilled.
