Zware dag op Karpathos. Helemaal kapot nu.
Eerste heat met de zilverfleet mee gevaren. Het waaide helaas weinig nog. Dit resulteerde in een 6e of 7de plaats. Dus niet door naar de Goldfleet. De volgde heat stond ik lang 1ste, tot dat Knol in de laatste minuten nog net de eerste plaats wegkaapte. De 2de plaats was ook voldoende om Goldfleet te mogen varen. In de 3de heat werd ik 7de of 8ste in de goldfleet. In de vierde heat (gold en silver samen) werd ik 14 of 15. De definitieve uitslagen volgen.
Bij het gebrek aan een cardreader de snelheden handmatig ingevuld.
@ dick: gefeliciteerd met je 1ste plaats in de goldfleet, sneller dan Albeau, Maynard, Dunkerbeck.

what a day for the dutch crew.
First heat i was using a new combi 7,0 with the 54wide and a 27fin
was a good decision after 30minutes i was in the lead it was awesome to hear Hans kreisel first place repeat first place a new guy from holland thought i was dreaming NOTTTTT but after that Finian and Antoine and Benny got back at me.
Second heat was really bad started off with some huge crashes on my missile xs and could not get my setup to work and had some trouble on the course so rerigged only didn't have time to make up.
Heat 3 took the 7,0 again only was really crowded because a full fleet was out but still got a 6t position so had a really nice start and i'm very happy
Respect to Dirk in heat 2 he got some nice gusts and was able to lock it all the way well done now there are 6 dutchies in the gold fleet

What a day for dutch speedsurfing. Mixed feelings for me, normally i would be happy to sail top 10 on a world cup speed, but with 5 other dutch guys in front of me it feels like becomming 6th on a usm.....
Offcourse it is a big lottery with the gusts and free runs here in Karpathos, but finally after 5 days the best windsurfer will win for sure. Even Bjorn Dunkerbeck finished around 15th the first heat, totally lost. Or doing well but not well enough.
Some big surprises today, Hans was leading the first half of the first heat and Dirk was doing only 2 runs in the second goldfleet heat and won. Nobody was able to get him anymore even not after doing 20 runs. The top guys were thinking who the fuck are these guys....we know better.
Maybe not so smart to change equipment one week before such an event, but afterwards it is easy talking. Albeau was peaking 45 knots with exactly the same equipment but he or Finian is leading the event so i have to blame my self only.
Looking forward for the next days and i hope i can improve, but i feel broken like everybody.

| Difficult day for the first day of the world championships. Some great runs by some guys, and plenty of frustration for others including myself. The wind was different today than for the Greek championships earlier in the week, and it took me all day for that to click. I made the mistake of taking the lines that were working in the last contest. But today there was a lot less wind, especially near the beach. I blew up my arms after the first 2 runs of the first heat due to borrowing a new harness that didnt fit properly (my old one is tearing apart). The hook ended up too high for my line settings so I used my arms way too much. Also the 7m was a bit too big in the gusts. End result was rock hard forearms and no ability to hold on in the gusts. By the 3rd round the arms were going down so I was able to make a lot of runs. But none of them were very sucessful being completely underpowered and unable to break a cycle of 36.0s on the timing board- I must have done close to 10 in a row! The last 2 runs just before the course closed were a bit faster... but nothing special. Congrats to all the guys that were flying today!

Only 1 good run in todays lottery. Not enough for an impressive result. Heat no 1, I only needed one more good time to make the top 10 but the wind played tricks on me.
Heat no 2 seemed promishing but something happened in the end and I was pushed back in the ranking.
Heat no 3 was a total disaster. I did 11 runs but the score was so miserable! The worst thing is that still I have not figured out what went wrong. Maybe it was fatigue. This year, top 10 is a very hard task

Great Results for the Dutch Sailors. Good to see that all that practice pays dividends in the end. Amazing how close the average speeds are for all that posted today.

Het is geen GPS wedstrijd Chris 
een 4e en een 6e plek in DE gold fleet de beste GPS tijden zijn gezet in de 2de heat waar ik het effe kwijt was wel een hoge crash score en misschien zelfs video materiaal wat de snelste heat was.
Jacq vaart heel constant vergeet niet dat ie op nieuwe spullen staat ze zijn erg verrast door ons ziet er ook goed uit voor de landenranking als we dit niveau allemaal behouden weet niet op welke plek ik sta maar in ieder geval hoog want we krijgen vast nog wel een aftrek dus heb een goede uitgangspositie kom maar op met die low wind wat hier inhoud goed powered up met een 7meter. i like | |

at last after 6 days of 7-9bf winds on devils bay, on my last day in karpathos, the wind dropped below 7bf for the first day since sunday just for one hour between 6:30-7:30pm
i got the chance to get in the water and test my equipment in flat downwind conditions
if only i had 2 more hours like that...

the course here at Devil's bay is super great! if only ihad a few more hours...
next year I'll be more prepared: 65lt and 5.2m is more suitable for the place

Some pro's just neglect gps-speedsurfing for some reason, but with these results they can't afford anymore to neglect it and have to take it serious. We have to be patient I think, but the other (few) big guys will post next year and that would be really cool and good for the sport.

Helaas, de eerste heat in de silverfleet tijdens het Wk begon voortvarend.
1e 250 m run 35 knopen, de volgende run ook een 35er.
Daarna tijdens het upwind varen voer ik samen met een andere competitor die plots ging gijpen.
Onmogelijk om hem nog te ontwijken.
Flinke crash , carbon giek in vele stukken .
Eind van de heat voor mij, helaas lukte het mij die dag niet meer om de draad weer op te pakken.
Erg jammer want dit was de dag met de meeste wind en zowel de 2 trainingsdagen als ook de eerste paar runs van de wedstrijd gingen voor mijn doen erg lekker.
De rest van de wedstrijddagen bleef mijn snelheid onder de maat.
Toch erg genoten van de andere Nederlandse surfers.
Één ding staat vast, de Nederlandse speedies hebben de speedsurfers uit andere landen wel een wake up call gegeven.
En vanaf nu weet iedereen wie Dirk Jan Knol, Hans Kreisel, Jacques van Hout zijn .
Ben van der Steen en Peter Volwater kende ze natuurlijk al maar plots 3 directe concurenten erbij zorgde voor een shock.
Zou mooi zijn om volgend jaar met een nog grotere Nederlandse delegatie daar aan de start te verschijnen.

| Hier de tijden van de data, uit de gps. Deze zijn nog een beetje beter als de tijden van de gps. Ben nu net weer thuis, en kan er nog niet bij dat ik alle mannen heb verslagen in de meeste wind van het evenement. Verder vond ik het een super evenement, en waren de nederlanders erg goed. Volgend jaar nog meer Nederlanders erbij!!!

| Min sista dag som jag seglade. Jag är nöjd efter de två veckor jag har varit där. Här gjort några PB, Har varit med på ett mästerskap. Åkt runt och tittat på ön. Har haft en go och skön semester. Kommer att åka flera gånger till karpathos.
