Great Day. Incredible sailing and an excellent turnout. The wind was howling all night so very little sleep in the van. It died away at first light, then came thumping in again from the West just before 9am at 25knots plus. The angle of the course varied from perhaps 110-120 degrees. First set of runs were fast, then faster but I was fairly spent by 2 pm due to lack of sleep. My strength has always been good but today really felt as though a weight jacket would have given that extra bit of leverage to really lock the rig down once going broad. The initial bear off was iffy but once going broad you could sit in close to the wall and lock yourself out in a comfortable stance.
The starboard Isonic 87 is a great board and was giving superb control and confidence. There always seemed to be a little gust at the end of run but the water down there suffered a little rolling chop and it always seemed to take about 100m of distance to slow down before you hit the wall. That's the only negative about WK - length of Run.
A big thank you to Bob Cunnigham for loan of his boards for the day.
A big Congratulations to Bob as well for his World Class performance. Inspirational Stuff.
