Once again, Gran Canaria will be travelling to Gruissan, in the south of France, as one of the leading brands of ‘le Defi 2017’. It will do so in the company of Björn Dunkerbeck, the legendary world champion from Pozo Izquierdo, who has amassed more trophies than anyone else in the world in Windsurf.
Coinciding with the French event, Björn is once again organizing our Gran Canaria Dunkerbeck Speed Challenge, a test for all those nutters prepared to sail along on a board at cruising speed. But watch out, this challenge comes with new challenges…
The new challenge this year is based on a new format. The traditional race held in Gruissan will have a parallel version alongside it, in the form of an online sister event: the Gran Canaria Dunkerbeck Worldwide Virtual Speed Challenge, organized as a competition with no barriers.
A challenge using GPS? How does it work?
The challenge sprang from a new idea. It is set up as a global contest, a challenge open to windsurfers anywhere around the world, who will be able to compete with each other from afar, measuring their times by GPS, simultaneously with the riders who are actually taking part in the race in Gruissan. There will be two diferents rankins, one for Le Defi riders and one for the rest of the world
But how is this possible?
Indeed, it is possible. Too right! If you cannot come along to ‘le Defi’ this month, then just sign up to the ‘virtual’ race, the Gran Canaria Dunkerbeck Worldwide Virtual Speed Challenge, open to competitors from around the world.
