Event beschrijving en NOR

It is time to announce the 2008 annual British GPS Speed Challenge. This is the 1st year for this event, which runs from 1st of January 2008 to the 31st of December. Thanks to the Support of our Sponsors Ultra Sport Europe, we have great prizes up for grabs including an F2 Missile and Maui Sails.

Speed shall be measured by the "Average of the 5 Fastest Ten Second Runs". The British GPS Speed Challenge follows the rules set out by the GPS Speedsurfing. It is also recognised by the UKWA (United Kingdom Windsurfing Association)

This event is designed for sailors of all skill levels, from beginners to the most experienced windsurfer. But you have to be in it to win it.

And its FREE!!! Apart from a small donation to the running of the GPS speedsurfing site, you can enter as many times as you like all season long. We want you to participate as often as you can.

The official GPS unit of the British GPS Speed Challenge is the GT-11 Trip Tracker by LOCOSYS Technology. But Garmin units such as the Fourtrex 201 and Gecko are still acceptable.

Please visit our Web Site for complete information, gps-speedsurfing.com and in due course the UKWA website ukwindsurfing.com

This Event runs on a completely flexible schedule over a 12 month period. You decide when you want to race.. The National Weather Service forecasts are quite accurate up to 5 days in advance. Find a windy day this fits your schedule.. See our "Rules" and "Equipment" pages for more information.

There will also be a number of USM (ultimate speed meetings) that will be called by Simon Hinkey.Email Simon on simonhnkly@btinternet.com if you want to be contacted about the USM meetings they are a great way to meet other speed freaks.

Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, Ultra Sport Europe, distributors of F2 and Maui Sails, we have loads of prizes including a 2008 F2 Missile, Maui Sails, sail and boom and loads of smaller prizes. The winners will be drawn from the complete list of tracks for the year 2008 sent in. So the more tracks you send in the better!

We will also have lots of great demo gear available, courtesy of Ultra Sport. Contact your nearest F2 & Maui sails dealer to try out the latest kit to get that extra knot or two.

We also want to thank GPS Speedsurfing for their ongoing Technical Support and for hosting the Results Page of this Event. Thank you Martin van Meurs, Onno Pierik, Dylan de Jong and Roger van Tongeren.

As you buy your gear in 2008, please support those companies who have made the British GPS Speed Challenge a success.

We look forward to seeing you on the water in 2008.

Event update meldingen

Sunday produced some epic speed sailing conditions at Portland harbor on Sunday the 9th.

The wind was strong throughout the day. With the strongest wind later in the afternoon. The course was running pretty much perfect. Gusts at the weather station were hitting 50 mph.

Pete young achieved the fastest average with 38.42 knots using a North Warp speed sail with a Fanatic Falcon 80. Kev Greenslalde being 0.6 of a knot behind in second place.

Bob Cunningham achieved the fastest 500 metre at 37.86 knots with his Tushingham X15 5.8.

Paul Symmons had the best v-max at 40.4 knots with his 4.6 Tushingham X15.

Johnny walker sailed superbly. His excellent average for such a light sailor needs a mention. As impressive was his 10 second speed was only .63 knots away from his v-max speed. Johnny was using a Gaastra vapor with a Fanatic Falcon speed.

Nic Dodd achieved a personal best for the day. Well done!
