Started out as a day to possibly set some new PR's. Flat, (1-2ft chop but wider spaced) good wind in the 5.8's window. Right off the bat I shot downwind first run and knocked off 32.5kts. Great it may happen today. Struggled a few more runs in and it was getting a little gustier and choppier.
On my 8th run or so heading out I felt the dreaded sail twitch and a crack. SOmething had slipped or worse broken. Taking stock of the situation I noticed as I had suspected the boom felt a little loose...not much but not right either. Ok, I'll turn around and head in to see what's what. Then snap. Boom broke at the ferrule on the head, swung up and poked a 2" slit in my sail and I went tumbling.
Spent 10 min rigging up a way to keep the boom together to sail the 1.8km back with one good boom arm. It had also tore the back so the entire thing was about to hit the can. I made it back but now with no more booms it's time to sell off a board or two to get back in the game.
Oh well, 8yr old boom was due to retire anyway and I managed 1 more PR.
