Weird day. Extreme windshifts and gusts due to rainsqualls coming in. During the whole day I was a little underpowered on my 6.0.

I thought I saw 77km/41,5kn on my gps but I guess I misread it. It made me think the trim and sailsizewas right, but somehow the sail felt heavy on the hands.

At the end of the day I put an extra 2cm. downhaul which would have been the solution for a more slippery ride. In the last puff of the day which was a lot less strong I reached just about the same maximum speed as before.

The wind was gusty all over the course so you basically needed as much accelleration as posible. With a more solid wind less downhaul can be used. It was a 6.5 day for sure, you needed the drive to settle for the gust.

Checked the polaires VMG once again, just for fun. The best mid gybe speed was 20knots (going into the gybe at 38, so around 50% los of speed) and the fastest angle in the gusts was around 120-130 degrees.

Next time I will do some really overpowered runs to test how far off the wind you can go to get the best out of the gusts. I've got a gut feeling that in those gusty conditions it's possible to bear of to 150 degrees to take full advantage of the gusts and a bigger sailsize.

It was fun to watch everyone really go for it. The first decent speed day of this summer. Far from perfect but a nice warm up for things to come later this season.
