gps-speedsurfing

Hi all.

Quick question - sorry if it's been covered before.

When we sell a GT31 from gps-speed.co.uk we set them up for customer with all the correct windsurf speedsailing settings as laid out by Tom Chalko and this GPS3 website.

Problem is.. I am confused by V1.4 firmware.

Here, on this site,  http://www.gps-speedsurfing.com/default.aspx?mnu=item&item=GTx : it states V1.4 B0315T

But the link from this page to Tom Chalko states V1.4 B0308T

I have been loading B0315T to our units lately... but at Weymouth Speed Week last week I was told it was "buggy" and I should use B0308T.

A bit confused - I am ??

Tris

Tristan, there have been a few buggy V1.4 firmware releases, which resulted in speeds over 66 km/h to be shown as their actual speeds minus 66 km/h. So for instance, if you had a run of 70 km/h, it would show up as 4 km/h or thereabouts.

I am not entirely sure this applies to speeds displayed in knots or in mph however. What I do know is that 'our' (across the pond) 66 km/h issue was fixed with firmware release V1.4 B0803T (not 308!), which is the version I am using and everyone I sail with. It's stable and it doesn't lock up like some V1.3 versions used to do.

Buggy releases concerning the km/h issue were V1.4(B0315T) and  V1.4(B0712T). They *might* work if you stick to mph or knots, but your safest bet is V1.4(B0803T).

Hope this helps

Thanks Oane.

Typo by me actually too.... B0803T is the other one .... not B0308T as I typed.

So thanks, I think I will make sure it is B0803T in all our units.

The settings in Toms website are all great EXCEPT: Please use logging 'ON' rather than 'ONFIX' It is better to have the whole set of data, even when there is not fix. We have found examples in the past where good runs were incomplete or missing with the 'ON FIX' setting. Unless you are trying to sail for days without saving you data to card, the flash memory can easily cope with normal sessions, and the SD card has more than enough room for any session.

For Records, we need to have the GPS logging set to 'ON'.
