Whoohoo! That was thrilling! Went for a new 1-hour record and made it! 40 km/h! I knew it was possible, and still there is room for improvement! Let's watch the checklist: First of all, the water was big; I had runs of about 5 km each. Second: the wind was consistent, but on the increase; the last 15 minutes were really difficult because the wind had gotten too strong for me and I could only plane with my sail fully opened. With a smaller sail I would have gotten more speeds out of these winds. I also made a stop of about 30 sec. to lower my boom a bit to increase control in these high winds. Third: the water was quite flat; further offshore it was quite choppy but this wasn't really slowing me down... Forth: good settings: not really; as said before I had to lower my boom because I was way too focussed on light winds. More outhaul would have been better as well... Fifth: planing through all jibes? Nope; I planed through most of them but due to the strong winds in the end my jibes were highly inefficient... Last: focussed? Yup! Really went for it this time. In all I can conclude that I missed out on some factors; I'm sure that if I improve these points an hour record of 42,5 or even higher is possible and I will surely aim for that next time!
