I had intended to spend the whole of Friday in the office. However, I couldn't help but notice how sunny and windy it was by 2pm so I checked XC weather and saw 25 knots of wind being reported in Bedford. Without a moment of hesitation my laptop was in its bag and I was charging up the M1 towards Brog!

I arrived to see the lake covered in white caps and people packing away their kit saying that their smallest sail (5.0m) was way too big - most were out on 4.0m to 4.5m. It was clearly a day for the small slalom board and the 5.4m sail!

Once out on the water, I was rather suprised out just how choppy it was! For the first 30 minutes or so I could barely touch 30 knots, thinking that it would be foolish to open up the throttle in such bumpy water. After about an hour of sailing, I was starting to relax and as a result my speeds started to increase.

The end result was a good peak speed, another Brog 250m at over 30 knots and my first Brog 5x10s at over 30 knots. These results were pleasing enough in themselves but even more so when considering the choppy conditions. On examing the GPS trace, I saw at least one gybe entry that was at well over 30 knots, without any kind of explosion afterwards!
