This was a great adventure to investigate a place we have been looking at for over a year but until now we had not seen the combination of tide and wind that we thought it would need.
The spot is quite inaccessible being in the middle of a large bay so we chartered a 30 foot fishing boat to take us out there. We found a place with huge potential for the NM. I have no doubt a world record could be set here for the Nautical Mile but the conditions for this are fickle. It gets plently of the right direction and strength of wind but the tide needs to be super low to get the best speed conditions. As it was the tide was about 200mm too high so we were running 20m - 50m downwind of the dry bank. 200mm lower and we would have been able to be withing 2-5m of the bank. It is still my best nautical mile with a 38.9knots peak speed but a slow point of 20 knots where I had to tighten up in a lull.
We will be watching this place very closely now that we know its potential and have worked out how to get there.
