It's not rewarding this speedsailing lark, good fun always and a great crowd to sail with but hard work!!
We left Cornwall at 4pm on Sat, 6hr drive, couple of pints in Hoylake, then a 6.30 start to get to the lake for 7am, the Forecast was potentially great but we didn't have high expectations given the high potential for it to be too broad.
At 7.15am the wind was out of the South with a lot of rain, by 7.45 the rain had gone through and the wind had gone all the way to NW and picked upto 30-35knots plus.
It looked do-able but once Simon and Johnny got in the angle was way too much.
Bloody cold too!! I wanted a sail having gone all that way and by 11.30ish I'd had enough. Wind was about 20-30+ and gusty. It was possible in this direction to run down the wall to the apex and then bear off hard for 2/3 secs before running out of power, however I got my better speeds by bearing off straight from the pier through the chop towards the wall, the SR50 went through it well. I caught a couple of gusts once on the wall and was able to continue for approx 150m or so on a couple of them, when we put the wind angle from hilbre into the software package the run angle on three runs was over 160 degress..LOL
Had an hour or so sailing, the water level was real low and there were a couple of dangerously shallow patches near the marker posts.
Upon packing up a 40-50knot squall came through, Might have been interesting to be on the water at the time to see if i could hang on.

Glad you are ok Paul after that big crash!!!
