Another great day at speedbeach Strand Horst. Sander won the day by a clear margin and it's a well deserved victory. After my post on the day with Twan and Sander, John Overmeer, one of my sailing buddies a well respected super quick 75! years old windsurfing legend, adviced me  not to write about testing days anymore as it could be seen as an excuse. I've thought it over and decide differently. I just want to share and all I can do is to share my truth on windsurfing, more specific speedsurfing. I aim to use this platform for that as I know I can reach many worldwide. 

I do not believe anymore in facebook or other social media. I rather follow people over here, meet likeminded riders on the beach and enjoy life with those close to me.

Since then I fought to get up to the top. In 2006 I was the first sailor to fifty, even if "only" for two seconds. GPS was not widely accepted and Dylan, Roger, Onno, Peter and I just created this website. This was six years after Roger (van Tongeren) told me I could download data with the GPS I was carrying around my arm.  He went home, showed me the possibilities and within five minutes I told him how we would end up with nation flags and people joining over 40 countries. I "invented" the now standing rankings within five minutes. They were and are the backbone of our sport and I am proud of that fact.

A little over a year ago I restarted after a very heavy period that ended in a psychosis and as a follow-up, mental hospital. I lost everything in life and only just managed to keep my head above water by not stepping out of this all. I so much understand now why Peter chose differently. The narrow choice when you are rockbottom. I've been there. Very happy I survived. Only by massive love and care of the one I love, I am still here. 

In the now  I feel I stand a chance to beat all again. Time will tell how close I can get to the six foot two monsters of speed. I think I can scare them as the 54 year old fart I have become as I am growing from a fat old fart to a fit old fart. As it turns out my opinion and that of my buddy Serge Beumer, who in my mind is the most talented windsurfing analyst in the world, is being heard by those that count to me from a human and expert perpective. There are great design people opening up to our pleads. 

Serge and I don't believe the PWA route is the way to move forward. We believe gps speed is something different, something way more fun. We will keep on showing just how efficient you can race and will prove our route is more fun than the route followed by others. It will also prove to be exeptionally fast. Yesterday, when rigging a 5.7 some asked me why I wanted to stand that much in the water. I rode the 5.7, falcon speed and a tiny but great fin. You can check my distance for yourself. 

We're not into rope pulling. We're into speedsurfing. I know I should have taken a larger size and when I feel like it, I will but now we're full on into the testing and designing route for S2 Maui and Tribal fins. Together with Robert Seinen, Michel Meijer and Serge Beumer we form the formal S2 speedsail development team. Granddad John our Joker. When you would put us next to eachother and take a picture you would cover all body sizes in windsurfing.

On a personal note I've got one aim: become the fastest speedsurfer of the world again in real life conditions. For that I need specialized gear suited for my weight, length and sailingstyle. Art Szpunar and Barry Spanier will provide. I am in close contact with Chris Lockwood and Peter Weitenberg on the fins for now and hopefully boards later. Chris is the frikkin' best findesigner in the world. I am sure also PWA riders will find their way to his fins as they are simply more efficient per size and thus control is added. The fin is only starting to find it's potential and riders have to get used to the fact you can sail smaller if you want.

In person I am fine when being beaten. As a matter of fact I enjoy being beaten as I feel I am truly fast again in all conditions. Being beaten by anyone else than possibly the top ten of the world is a showcase trim is off, regardless which board, fin and sail I decide to use for training and comparison purposes. In a year time I hope being beaten by the top three of the world is a showcase trim is off. I aim to be with the best again and will train my arse of at the best speedbeach in the world: Strand Horst.

I am a firm believer we are onto a new designdirection in windsurfing. Luckily for me I've got some people on my side who believe in me and the team I gathered around me, to create the best gear for anyone.

By testing, talking about the the route we're taking and advicing people personally, I hope to be able to share knowledge I obtained for over 33 years in speedsurfing. I feel I have become a Zen master of speed and will show the youngsters how it's done. Those open to me will be trained personally by me.
