A good fun day but not really strong enough wind for great speeds. The front peaked at about 7AM, but with high tide at 8AM, we had to wait until 10AM to get into the inlet. First run on CA40 with 5.4m felt OK but not fully powered. 39 peak. But struggled to sail back with soft wind so switched to IS87 Slalom board with the same sail. I was not happy with the feel and performance of the sail. When I rigged I grabbed the first 4m mast that I found and after I rigged I realised it was the one with the tip extension. The sail was too loose up top and too knuckled in the body. Eventually I came in and changed masts for a standard KA RDM. After that the sail felt and worked awesome.

First run after the mast change was right on a high 20's squall. Another top speed over 38 knots on the IS87 with 27cm Tribal Weedspeed fin. I really could feel the drag of the big fin and board!

The wind died after the squall and while we were waiting for it to fill in again, Mat suggested we try a NM run. Wind came back so we did it. This also coincided with another squall as we hit the speed course and my top peak speed of the day right in the middle of it. This time the drag from the big board and fin was off the scale. I recon it would have been a 40+ on the speed board for sure. I walked back in the sustained 28-30 knot squall but no one got on it.

Just as we decided to retire for the day, a big black squall line came into view. We plugged in the speed boards and waited, and waited, but it went around us. That was it. We packed up.

Good fun day with Mat and Hajime.
