After a false start at Tamaki river, called in at Herne Bay just as two guys were coming in from Meola Reef. Tide was nearly 3 hours in so decided Shoal Bay was the go.
Excellent runs down the bar. Had a nasty catapult at the end of the bar near the launch area, when i suddenly noticed a kiters board in the water just as i was at full tilt bearing down wind. Extracated my rig from the shallow mud and checked for broken bones. Had a cut under my big toe. Decided to change down from 5.8 to NP 5.4
First run out past the bar and into a gybe - "Crack!!!" X6 boom breaks near the clamp.
Flipped boom over to good side and sailed back to shore.
Had no option but to call it quits.
Happy with PB of 37.08 knots, but felt gutted that could have been faster with 5.4
