Wind had so much west in it that the west course was way too broad, surprisingly the east course was still too square and quite slow next to the sand bar, had to bear off into chop to get any speeds. Think Southerley is a better direction as you can use both courses. Mike G ran aground in the shallows at the end of the east course and bust his boom, very easy to do and something to watch out for. Wind picked up about 3pm as we were packing up.
My 2nd time at the ray.  got there to late - rigged 5.8- wind dropped- rigged 6.3  but wind dropping- ray filling up-- Loads of excuses!!!  but had a good hour sailing in the sunshine- nice an warm for november.
Day at the Ray - Part 1

Met up with Ian Richards first thing and we decided on small slalom kit for a bit of a blast. On my third run down the eastern course, I was enjoying the sun when wham... I'm sitting in six inches of water after grounding the fin! I was a bit surprised to be uninjured but my boom wasn't so lucky!

Whilst I was walking myself and my kit back to the car (about 2km away) the wind kicked in. All I could do whilst I trudged back was watch the other speedies flying down the course. Doh!

Photos of the damage can be viewed online: http://www.windsurf.me.uk/cpg133/thumbnails.php?album=59

Day at the Ray - Part 2

Almost two hours after the boom incident I'd managed to get back to the car, have somehting to eat, re-rig and get back down to the water. During that time I had covered 3km whilst carrying my kit in some fashion or other!

I'd decided to take my speed board out this time but I was also forced to use my 5.4m because of my boom for the 6.2m was trashed. When I got down to the water, I could see that the wind had eased up and was only a few knots stronger than my first session. I think Ian was wondering whether I'd even get planing!

I had a few runs down the course but I felt underpowered and heading back upwind, I was often coming to a standstill in the lulls and sunk on numerous occasions. On a positive note... I can say that I was able to uphaul, lol.

No really good speeds but as the saying goes, a bad day on the water is better than a good day in the office! Just as we finished de-rigging, the wind picked up to an average of about 25 knots, maybe gusting 40 knots.

Despite everything, I actually quite enjoyed the day although maybe not the walking - 6km in total.
