Very painful.

I paid 25 EUR for a Premium membership 36 hours ago and it is still not active. I am not able to log off from the site either. Logging off is supposed to "activate" the membership. Not clear what's wrong here.

I notified the crew about this twice alreay, but I have nog yet gotten any reponse from them, although they clearly are reading and responding to the forum in other topics. I hope someone is frenetically investigating this bug and that a bug notification or fix will be communicated real soon.

This is really awkward. Did anyone else have the same experience when renewing their membership ?

I'm sorry to hear that your Premium Membership seems not be workting. In less than 24 hours you have posted three seperated forum items about this, in order to work in a structured way we kindly ask you to consolidate your postings in one topic. Besides that we don't offer a 24x7 support, things should be working, both for paying and free members, that's our philosophy. That in this case it's not working for you that's not ok, so we will fix it, we not alway have the time during office-hour to respond on the forum, and in case of bug's we alway try to simulate the issue, just to check if there's a workaround. 

As a former software developer you must understand that we cannot simply fix any problem for everybody fast, swift, rapid etc etc etc

Can the crew please clarify: is the Premium membership a recurring (=automatically renewing) fee, or a one-off fee ?

On my Paypal receipt, the payment is labeled as "Recurring payment".
The Paypal definition of "recurring payments" does not clearly state whether this is an auto-renewal feature (https://www.paypal.com/pdn-recurring). It focuses more on the advantages for site developers to easily integrate payments on the website and hand off the invoicing and administration to Paypal.

I would prefer the membership to stay as it was: a non-renewing payment, that has to renewed manually each year. Is this still the case ?

Renewal has to be done manually every year (as described on our webpage "After this year the membership expires and can be prolonged by paying the yearly membership fee"  ) , so no changes in the terms and conditions here...

But when I open Paypal, open the specific details of the payment, and click on "Manage Gp3S payments", it mentions "Goldmember" in Item Name :

No, there both the same, we have changed the name "Goldmember"  to "Premium Member"  when we introduced the new webdesign, we will change it in the PayPal Description as well....
